Hug the Lake in celebration of Earth Day!


Join us for 15 minutes between classes at Lake Osceola to celebrate Earth Day by participating in our green booths and hugging the lake! We will have fun activities, free t-shirts, and free donuts. Come out Friday, April 21st at 12 pm to participate.

Hug the Lake is hosted by Random Acts of Kindness, which is a community of UM students that truly believe the spreading of kindness and positivity can change someone's life.

Party at the Rainbow Rager!



Join the Rainbow Roundtable on the Lakeside Patio on Thursday, April 13th from 9 - 11 pm for music, dancing, entertainment, giveaways, food, and more!

The Rainbow Rager is being held as part of celebration of Campus Pride Month.

This will be an LED light-themed party so wear your white and bring your rainbow accessories for a fun night!

Join a PowerU Forum on the School to Prison Pipeline



Join PowerU, a community empowerment organization, on Monday, April 17th at 8 pm in the UC Storm Surge for a talk on the School to Prison Pipeline, their work, and how you can get involved in their mission.

PowerU is an organization that believes in economic justice, youth empowerment, black liberation and women's liberation amongst other issues.

Apply to be a Fall Break 2017 Site Leader with UMAB!

UMAB is a student-run organization that sends students on​ community service​ trips across the country every Fall and Spring Break to work with a variety of social justice issues.

Site Leaders work in pairs to select a social justice issue of their choice (ex: urban poverty), choose a non-profit community partner to work with, and design the four-day service trip. Alternatively, they can site lead for a pre-designed trip. They then facilitate their trip with a group of 8-10 students from October 12th to October 15th.

Applications can be found on OrgSync HERE and are due by April 18th at 11:59pm.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes!

On Thursday, April 20th, 3 - 4:30 pm take the time to “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes."

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is an annual event on campus to take a stand against sexualized violence against women that takes place at the Rock and Foote Green.

Men will be provided one-inch heels and given the option to “walk a mile” to raise awareness of the causes, effects, and remediation of rape, sexual assault, and gender violence. Women are also encouraged to walk!

T-shirts are available in advance and the day of event with a minimum of $5 donation. There will also be a toiletry drive at the event.

All proceeds and donations go to the SafeSpace Women's Shelter. Join your ’Cane Community and participate as individuals or by creating a team to walk together. Please register for the event HERE.

The walk is sponsored by the Counseling Center’s Sexual Assault Resource Team (SART) and COPE.

Donate to the Beauty and the Book Drive!

URise is a student run initiative that encourages academic excellence and facilitates service projects in connection with middle and high schools in Miami-Dade and Broward County.

We are currently collecting used and new children's and young adult books to benefit the Women in Distress of Broward County. Books can be dropped off Monday, April 10th to Friday, April 21st in the UC Lower Lounge.

WDB is an organization that aids and shelters women and their children who have been victims of domestic abuse.

Beauty and the Book Drive hopes to spread the joy of reading and provide a literary escape for those staying in the WDB center.

Come join the Habitat for Humanity UM Campus Chapter for our annual spring banquet held on Tuesday, April 25th from 7-8 pm in the UC Biscayne 1220 room.

We will also have Mario Artecona, the CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami, at the banquet so this is a great opportunity to meet him and to get more information from us on how to get involved next semester, even if you're new to Habitat!

Buy art and help kids!


Want to help support a worthy cause? Art for Kids will be hosting our annual Art Showcase and Sale this Friday, April 14th from 7-10 pm at the Rathskeller.

The event will feature artwork created by students and residents of the Miami community. Artwork will be available for both fixed prices and silent auction.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to Nicklaus Children's Hospital. Help us make a difference in the lives of children in the Miami Community!

Walk in AIDS Walk Miami!

A Week 4 Life will be attending AIDS Walk Miami, an annual 5K walk-a-thon fundraiser through the streets of South Beach benefiting over 15,000 people individuals in the Miami-Dade and Broward communities who have been affected or infected with HIV/AIDS.

Transportation and breakfast will be provided by A Week 4 Life and students can also join the team at aidswalkmiami.org/aw4l(Promocode:UM)

Will meet at Stanford Circle beforehand and leave as a group on Sunday, April 23rd at 8 am!

Commit to taking action with CGIU!

Learn more about becoming a Commitment Maker and being supported in creating a Commitment to Action in order to attend the Clinton Global Initiative University conference next fall!

The 10th Annual CGI U meeting will take place at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts from Friday, October 13, 2017 - Sunday, October 15, 2017.

The CGI U 2017 application is open to all currently enrolled students at the university regardless of whether a particular student will be enrolled come October.

In order to apply, CGI U students are required to develop a Commitment to Action: a new, specific, and measurable plan to address a challenge in one of CGI U’s five focus areas: Education, Environment and Climate Change, Peace and Human Rights, Poverty Alleviation, and Public Health.

Join the Million Meal Pack with Feeding Children Everywhere!

The AARP Foundation, The Miami Dolphins and US Hunger (FCE's domestic brand) are partnering together for the 3rd year in a row to package one million healthy meals for the South Florida community. There will be great music, good fun and a volunteer experience like no other!

With our latest project, we're spearheading efforts to mobilize volunteers to pack 1 million healthy meals and we need your help!

The Million Meal Pack will take place Sunday, April 30th at 7: 30 am at the Nova Southeastern University Don Taft University Center

Explore the medical field and assist the elderly!


If you find yourself looking for something to do you can do any time look no further.

Participate with activities and visits with nursing home residents and PACE Adult Day Care participants.

Additionally, volunteers can explore the medical field while volunteering. You can help with therapeutic recreation, physical therapy, occupational therapy, ambulatory health clinic, health information management, etc. 

A background check is required.

Super Saturday is where students come to learn and engage in various activities such as STEM, arts, tutoring, sports, and much more! The event takes place 10 am to 2 pm at the Overtown Youth Center.

Witnessing Change Video Competition

The Witnessing Change Video Competition is a unique grassroots documentary and investigative reporting project on current climate related impacts already affecting American communities.

The project asks students to explore the personal costs of climate disruption by interviewing impacted individuals and creating two-minute videos. In the process, they create local dialogue and shareable social media to improve public literacy around immediate consequences of climate change.

Students will be awarded cash prizes of $500 and $250 for first and second place.

The submission link for the video competition will appear at www.climatecostproject.org/video-competition on April 15th, and the last day for submission is May 1st. 

Protect beach nesting birds with Conservian

We need your help to protect beach-nesting birds, nests, and young. Conservian is seeking a weekly crew of 8-12 enthusiastic volunteers for our Bahamas shorebird habitat conservation project in May 2017 aboard our 75ft research schooner. Field crew will assist project director with daily project activities.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain field experience and shorebird ID skills. Trip cost for one week is $1,250 and includes your bunk, onboard meals, water, and ground transportation associated with project. Participants will fly to the Bahamas to designated airports for shuttle transport to schooner.

Field volunteers will participate in collecting new data on shorebirds and seabirds of the Bahamas. Selected sites include Globally Important and locally Important Bird Areas and national parks of the Bahamas

Camp AmeriKids Volunteering

Camp AmeriKids, a summer camp for children living with the challenges of HIV/AIDS and sickle cell disease, is looking for caring, responsible, energetic and fun counselors for our 2017 season.

A volunteer counselor team is responsible for the 24-hour supervision of a cabin and maintains a camper to counselor ratio of about 2 to1. Counselors spend each day of camp with their cabin group as they rotate through a schedule of activities and participate in new and exciting workshops provided by the program staff. The cabin counselor's enthusiastic participation in all aspects of camp, from meals and activities to nightly special events and cabin chats, is crucial in creating a memorable camp experience for our campers.

Counselors are expected to be role models, sources of energy and ideas, and are a key part of the Camp AmeriKids community. Room & board at our site in Warwick, NY is provided.

Volunteers should apply for our 2017 camp session by Friday, April 14th. Applications are available on our website www.elm-project.org.
