Get Out the Vote (GOTV)

Get Out the Vote (GOTV) is a campaign headed by students with the aid of the University of Miami’s administration with the goal of reaching out to the student population to encourage peers to get involved in the political process. The purpose of Get Out The Vote is to register, educate, and mobilize voters in the University of Miami community. GOTV promotes civic participation and political efficacy.

Get Out the Vote is a hub of civic activity on our campus and greater Coral Gables community. We encourage Canes to remember that our university does not exist in a bubble and that every action can make change.  As a campus that has exhibited great vigor for civic participation, we will continue to perpetuate student civic participation at all times, not just during elections.

Awards and Recognition

University of Miami has been recognized as one 272 institutions across the nation who broke barriers to empower students during a critical election year by giving their campuses the information and tools they needed to participate in the political process. Campuses were evaluated on their ability to complete a multi-step process, which included engaging a coalition of campus stakeholders in developing a nonpartisan plan to engage student voters in 2024, facilitating voter education and engagement efforts on campus, and writing a final analysis of their efforts reflecting on what worked and what to change going forward. The designation is valid through December 2026 and is the fifth time the University has earned the voter friendly campus designation.

University of Miami has been recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN) as a 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting. The ALL IN Most Engaged Campuses for College Student Voting recognizes colleges and universities for outstanding efforts to increase nonpartisan student voter participation. The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge empowers colleges and universities to achieve excellence in nonpartisan student democratic engagement. Campuses that join the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge complete a set of action items, with the support of ALL IN staff, to institutionalize nonpartisan civic learning and voter participation on their campus. The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge currently engages 10.8 million students from more than 1,075 institutions in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
