Volunteer Portal

Find a Volunteer Opportunity

One of the easiest ways to explore ongoing volunteer opportunities across South Florida is through the Volunteer Opportunities Database. This platform is provided by the University as a resource, but the content is created by the participating Community Partner organizations. The database features information from over 250 local agencies, searchable by interest area, and includes contact details for students to follow up directly.

While the University does not contribute to or curate the content within the database, all students are welcome and encouraged to engage in a volunteer cause of their choosing. The Volunteer Portal serves as a centralized hub to discover opportunities and log service hours. Tracking your volunteer hours not only highlights your impact on the community—it also opens the door to recognition through awards such as Volunteer of the Month!

Guiding Principles for Service

Spectrum of Service

The Butler Center uses the "Spectrum of Service" model (see above) to illustrate how individuals develop into social change agents. The model demonstrates the process of growth individuals experience as they are exposed to volunteering and becoming more aware of and educated about societal issues. Individuals begin as "members" of society who are not concerned with a personal role in societal problems and ideally develop into "active citizens," or agents of change, who make the community a priority in their values and life choices.
