Canes Ignite Mentorship

Canes Ignite provides a mentorship experience at the University of Miami that connects students to current campus leaders and allows them to maximize their potential to become more active leaders.

About the Program

The Canes Ignite Mentorship Program pairs student mentors and mentees to collaboratively develop leadership workshops focused on student leadership topics utilizing Dr. Corey Seemiller’s Student Leadership Competencies as a framework. Students are advised by staff members from the Butler Center for Service & Leadership before finalizing and presenting their workshops for the campus community

Learning Outcomes

  • Develop leadership skills in areas like team collaboration, project planning, public speaking, and facilitation. Including, increase confidence and skills in event planning.
  • Build project management skills by meeting deadlines for workshop proposal and preparations.
  • Enhance research and critical thinking skills by connecting workshop topics to established leadership competencies.
  • Gain deeper theoretical knowledge of leadership concepts and practical application through developing and leading a workshop.
  • Expand professional network.
