Every year, students are recognized at the Celebration of Involvement Reception where campus-wide awards for service and leadership are presented, including the Edward T. Foote II Award for Excellence in Student Leadership, the Vice President's Award for Service, the Sherwood Weiser Memorial Fund for Student Community Service, the Robert Bates Cole Award for Volunteer Leadership, the Ann S. Waldman Endowed Scholarship and the Vivian Berger Giller Impact award.

Students, faculty and staff, and community partners are welcome to nominate outstanding students engaged in service and leadership through the nomination links included below. Nomination applications will be open in Spring 2024.

Edward T. Foote II Award for Excellence in Student Leadership

Senior | 1 Recipient
Eligibility - Students who have best demonstrated exemplary involvement, leadership, and achievements in their college experience.

The Edward T. Foote II Award for Excellence in Student Leadership is an annual award that recognizes one outstanding undergraduate senior at the University of Miami who has best demonstrated exemplary involvement, leadership, and achievement in their college experience.

Vice President's Award for Service

Senior | Multiple Recipients
Eligibility - Students who have best demonstrated exemplary community service in their college experience.

The Vice President's Award for Service is an annual award that recognizes outstanding undergraduate students at the University of Miami who have best demonstrated exemplary community service in their college experience. The Vice President's Award for Service was initially established in 1991 to recognize members of the student body, faculty, and staff for extraordinary service to the Greater Miami Community. Today, the award recognizes undergraduate seniors graduating during the Spring, Summer, or Fall term who demonstrate service and involvement on campus and in their communities. Special consideration will be given to students with involvement through the Butler Center for Service and Leadership.

Sherwood Weiser Memorial Fund for Student Community Service

Junior | Multiple Recipients
Scholarship Amount: $2,000
Eligibility - Students who possess a combination of character and compassion along with exhibiting a strong commitment to community service while at UM.

The Sherwood M. Weiser Memorial Fund for Student Community Service has been established in honor of our late trustee, Sherwood M. Weiser, a distinguished business and civic leader whose lifelong dedication to community service had a significant impact at the University of Miami and throughout South Florida. Students chosen will possess a combination of character and compassion along with exhibiting a strong commitment to community service while at UM. The Sherwood M. Weiser Memorial Fund for Student Community Service will provide $2,000 scholarships to four current undergraduate full-time students at the University of Miami with junior academic standing.

Magaly Santos Llaca Endowed Memorial Scholarship

Sophomore or Junior (First-Generation Student) | 1 Recipient
Scholarship Amount: $5,000
Eligibility - Preference is given to first-generation college students of Cuban descent with a history of demonstrated active involvement in being civically engaged within the UM and greater Miami area.

The Magaly Santos Llaca Endowed Memorial Scholarship was established by Glen and Tania Waldman. The fund was created to honor Tania and her sister Ana’s late mother Magaly Santos Llaca for her years of leadership and service to her community. Magaly was very active in the Cuban community and was always there for her friends and neighbors with an indefatigable spirit and warmth.  Her love of people and community and commitment to be a rock for others in time of need was truly admirable.  The scholarship is meant to honor a student who represents this same spirit of service. The scholarship will recognize one undergraduate sophomore or junior student in good academic standing with a $10,000 scholarship. Students chosen will show a demonstrated involvement in being civically engaged along with good academic standing as a first-generation college student. Preference will be given to a student of Cuban descent.

Ann S. Waldman Endowed Scholarship

Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior (First-Generation Student) | 1 Recipient
Scholarship Amount: $5,000
Eligibility - Preference is given to first-generation college students who excelled academically while being civically engaged within the campus and local community.

The Ann S. Waldman Endowed Scholarship was established in honor of Ann S. Waldman. The scholarship will recognize one undergraduate freshman, sophomore or junior student in good academic standing with a $10,000 scholarship. The recipient has excelled academically while being civically engaged within the campus and local community. Preference will be given to a first-generation college student.

Vivian Berger Giller Impact Award 

Junior | 1 Recipient
Scholarship Amount: $3,000
Eligibility - Recognizes a student who has made a significant impact on campus through their leadership experiences and/or involvement with volunteering activities, student organizations and special projects.

The Vivian Berger Giller Impact Award was established by Leslie and Craig Coller in memory of Leslie’s mother, Vivian Berger Giller. The $3,000 scholarship will recognize one outstanding full-time undergraduate student with junior academic standing at the University of Miami. The award recipient is honored for making a significant impact on campus through their leadership experiences and/or involvement with volunteering activities, student organizations, and special projects.

Robert Bates Cole Award for Volunteer Leadership

Sophomore | 1 Recipient
Scholarship Amount: $2,000
Eligibility - Students that exemplify the characteristics of integrity and dedication through exceptional, committed, and unassuming participation in community service activities.

The Robert Bates Cole Award for Volunteer Leadership is presented annually to a current full-time undergraduate sophomore student at the University of Miami. He or she exemplifies the characteristics of integrity and dedication through exceptional, committed, and unassuming participation in community service activities. The Robert Bates Cole Award for Volunteer Leadership is presented annually to a current full-time undergraduate sophomore student at the University of Miami. This award includes a $2,000 scholarship presented by the Lennar Foundation.
