Awards & Recognition

The Butler Center recognizes outstanding students who have demonstrated a dedication to service and leadership.

UM students, faculty and staff are recognized annually at the Celebration of Involvement. This ceremony highlights outstanding individuals with a passion for service and leadership and is presented by the Division of Student Affairs and the Butler Center for Volunteer Service and Leadership Development. Four awards are given at this ceremony: the Edward T. Foote II Award for Excellence in Student Leadership, the Vice President's Award for Service, the Robert Bates Cole Award for Volunteer Leadership,  the Sherwood M. Weiser Memorial Fund for Student Community Service, the Ann S. Waldman Endowed Scholarship and the Vivian Berger Giller Impact award.

Additionally, the Butler Center has partnered with the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation to recognize outstanding volunteers with the President's Volunteer Service Award. This award recognizes individuals, families, and groups that have achieved a certain standard – measured by the number of hours of service over a 12-month period or cumulative hours earned over the course of a lifetime.
